Site 8: Megalithic Tomb at the Wiemelsberg (8)
The megalithic grave near Ueffeln village is of special interest for two reasons. First it’s beautiful scenic setting at the edge of the forest with wonderful views over the Osnabrücker Land, and second the remarkably complete condition of the grave chamber. The chamber is six bays long and all orthostats and capstones are still there, merely partly collapsed. As early as 1807 extensive excavations took place, revealing rich findings: twelve pottery vessels, an axe, flint stone blades, arrow heads and amber pearls.
